Expelled MLAs meet DG

-

Expelled Congress legislators Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and Sampath Kumar met Director-General of Police M. Mahendar Reddy on Thursday and submitted a memorandum requesting that their security detail be restored as they face a threat to their lives. They said that after the High Court restored their membership of the Assembly, they had not been provided gunmen. They said that if no action is initiated in this regard, they would be forced to stage a dharna in front of the DGP office. Their next step would be to go on a 48-hour hunger strike at Jantar Mantar at Delhi.

They said though 20 days had passed after the High Court judgement, neither the state government nor the Assembly had preferred any appeal. This has made the judgement of the single judge final.

Mr Venkata Reddy and Mr Sampath Kumar said the single judge had categorically held that the expulsion proceedings were set aside and the petitioners’ membership in the Telangana Legislative Assembly was automatically restored and revived.

The judge had upheld their continuance in the Telangana state Assembly for the remaining tenure as duly elected MLAs for all practical purposes, they said.

The two Congress leaders said that anybody who interfered or refused to adhere to the orders passed by High Court would be viewed seriously and proceeded against under contempt of court laws.

They said all facilities due to sitting legislators should be extended to them forthwith.
