Trio on bike tries to hide number plate, penalised

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MAY 28

Three youths on a motor cycle tried to outsmart the traffic police by covering the number plate with a foot. But they had to pay the price for the violations after a road safety activist recorded the act and shared the footage with the authorities.

Cyberabad police has booked the owner of the bike for multiple violations, including triple riding, riding without helmet, improper number plate and for hiding number plate from traffic police.

In a video shared by road safety activist Satya Hari, three men are seen riding a bike with registration number TS07GA1891 on Sunday at 12.20 pm in Kukatpally. None of them were wearing helmets and the bike had improper number plate. The footage shows that as they passed by a traffic cop, one of the pillions covered the rear number plate with his foot. It also shows them indulging in rash driving.

Reacting to the video shared by the activist on Twitter, Cyberabad traffic police immediately issued a challan to the two-wheeler owner with fines of `1,000 for rash driving, `1,200 for triple riding and `100 for riding without helmet.

It was also found that the rider of the same bike was fined `100 on May 19 by the Rachakonda traffic police near Chautuppal bus stand for not wearing helmet. The violator now has to pay a total fine of `2,470 for both violations.

The Cyberabad traffic police had recently issued a warning after they received several complaints from activists and citizens about vehicle owners trying different ways to escape challans by using either fake or improper number plates.

Mr Satya Hari said, “Many persons tamper with or cover the number plates of their vehicles thinking that they can outsmart the police but citizen policing has now provided more eyes to the law.”
