- L. VENKAT RAM REDDY I DC HYDERABAD, MAY 28

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao returned to the city from Delhi on Monday evening without meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind as he could not secure an appointment with them.

He was to request them to approve new zonal system brought by Telangana state government to ensure jobs for locals. Mr Rao rushed to Delhi by a special flight late on Sunday soon after the Cabinet meeting approved the new zonal system to meet Mr Kovind and Mr Modi.

Mr Rao met Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, submitted a representation in this regard and returned to the city.

CMO sources said Mr Modi’s appointment could not be secured as he was busy with his three-day foreign trip beginning Tuesday. The President is leaving for Surat also on Tuesday.

Mr Rao had earlier planned to stay in Delhi for two or three days to meet the President and the PM. He will now go to Delhi again in the first week of June.

The representation submitted by Mr Rao to Mr Rajnath Singh stated, “In order to take administration closer to the people, Telangana state government had reorganised the erstwhile 10 districts into 31 districts in 2016.

“In the backdrop of formation of new state with 31 districts, there is a need to issue a fresh Presidential Order adjusting zones, multizones and state cadre etc, under Article 371(D) of the Constitution,” the representation added.
