Many do not take the beaten path

Not many kin of IAS and IPS officers follow their parents’ footsteps in view of the diverse avenues available now.

Among the few, Mr Akshay Kumar Yedavalli, a chemical engineer from Bhopal and son of police constable Y. Dayakar, of Mamnoor, Warangal, topped the civils and wants to become an IPS officer.

He was inspired by his hard-working father and officers like K.S. Vyas and Umesh Chandra who laid down their lives.

Former CBI officer V.V. Lakshminarayana’s son Sai Praneeth has cleared the UPSC among over 20 candidates from both Telugu states.

Mr Kartikeya Goel, the son of Mr A.K. Goel, IAS, advisor to the TS government on planning and energy, is posted as IG Stamps and Registration in Chhattisgarh. He says the IAS remains the preferred choice for many.

“Children of IAS officers don’t listen to their parents now. Out of 100, not even five are joining the IAS. Unlike us, they now have IT, BT, entrepreneurship etc. We came from modest backgrounds. My son was pretty ‘infected’ with books on tribal development when I was in Adilabad and he joined the IAS,” said Goel Sr.

Mr Krishna Bhaskar, the son of senior IAS couple V. Bhaskar and Lakshmi Parthasarathy, is an IAS officer and collector of Rajanna Sircilla district. He was earlier selected to the IPS, but gave it up for the IAS. His brother, Mr Parthasarathy Bhaskar, has joined the IRS.

Ms Sweta Mohanty, daughter of former AP chief secretary P.K. Mohanty, is an IAS officer and is serving as collector of Wanaparthy district.
