Cops tie up man, leave him to die

Four Meerpet police personnel have been suspended for the death of an unidentified man who they had tied up and abandoned in an isolated area about 20 km from the city. The incident occurred on April 21, and came to light on Monday.

Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat confirmed that four personnel were involved in the incident including a sub-inspector, a detective sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector and a head constable.

“All four of them have been suspended.” he said.

On April 21 morning, in a forest area near the Sanghi temple on the city outskirts, a shepherd, Rangaiah, saw a car moving at high speed halt suddenly.

Four occupants of the car threw a person from the car into the bushes on the roadside.

Mr Rangaiah raised an alarm, and the occupants entered the car and sped away towards the highway.

Alerted by Mr Rangaiah, local police rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

After verifying the clues and other evidences, it was revealed that the men who dumped the unidentified man from the car were police in plain clothes.

They had picked the man at Meerpet, after he was caught by locals under the suspicion of being a member of the kidnapping gang and thrashed him.
