Cop used service weapon to threaten her S-I’s wife seeks hubby’s arrest

-

The Malkajgiri police has finally registered a case against a sub-inspector after being ordered to do so by the State Human Rights Commission.

In her complaint, Jyothi Laxma Reddy, the victim, said that Peddula Laxman Reddy, sub-inspector at Sangareddy police station married her in 2013 and they have a three-and-ahalf-year-old son.

She said that the S-I has been having an affair with another woman since 2014, leading to quarrels between them.

“My husband asked me to leave his house in 2015, after I became aware of his affair and he also told that he wanted to marry another woman as it would get him more dowry,” said the complainant.

“He threatened his wife and child a few months ago and we recieved a complaint yesterday at Malkajgiri police station. The couple has been living separately and are having domestic disputes. The wife has been trying to reconcile but the husband has been cooperating,” said Komaraiah, inspector of Malkajgiri.

In January 2017, when the complainant went to her husband with their child, he threatened to kill them and used a knife and his service revolver to intimidate her.

“Following this episode, I tried lodging a complaint with Malkajgiri police station, but they did not entertain my request as Janaki Ram, one of the sub-inspectors at the police station — who is also my husband’s friend — not used his influence,” told the victim.

Her case was registered in June 2017 under Section 498 (a) of the IPC, after a delay of six months.

Unsatisfied with the police action, the victim approached the State Human Rights Commission in February 2018 to look into the matter.

The commission sought police intervention and inquiry, leading to the Malkajgiri police registering a case under Section 506 of the IPC (criminal intimidation) on Thursday. Rein Bazar police arrested a man wanted for murdering a labourer on Thursday morning. According to the police, Syed Suleman, 34, was previously arrested by Moghalpura Police for killing a homeless man in the same way he killed Mirza Muneer Baig.

On Thursday, Baig was murdered with an iron rod at a function hall in Yakutpura of Rein Bazar. Preliminary enquiry revealed that a heated argument was what led to the attack.
