- ANUDEEP CEREMILLA | DC

At the Dalita Girijana Simha Garjana held at Warangal on Sunday, several national-level leaders voiced their displeasure at the Supreme Court’s judgement on the SC and ST Act and called for a united fight against the BJP government which is trying to dilute the Act.

The meeting was attended by several leaders of various national and local parties.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjuna Kharge said atrocities against Dalits, Adivasis and Minorities have increased after the BJP came to power. He alleged that the BJP government is supporting the offenders and helping them evade punishment. “To top it all, the BJP, with the help of the Supreme Court, is trying to dilute the SC, ST Atrocities Act. The Modi government is trying to change the Constitution. It is time for all of us to join hands and what is a better place than Warangal which is known to be the land of revolt and unity,” he said.

Several national-level leaders voiced their displeasure at the Supreme Court’s judgement on the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act and called for a united fight against the BJP government which is trying to dilute the Act.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar recalled what her father Babu Jagjeevan Ram had done for the uplift of Dalits and the downtrodden and said being the daughter of such a great person, she feels it is her responsibility to stand up for the rights of Dalits.

“The BJP government is trying to sabotage the lives of the Dalits and the Adivasis. Currently, the rights of the Dalits and Adivasis are being snatched away. Soon, the minorities, the poor and the backward classes will face a similar situation. There is only one way to fight against this: Remove Narendra Modi from power, bring down the BJP government,” she appealed.

She also criticised Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for failing to keep his promises given to the Dalits. She asked the people to bring his government down too and ensure a Dalit ascends the Chief Minister’s seat.

CPI national secretary D. Raja said the BJP which is working with the agenda of implementing ‘Hindu raj’ in the country wants to replace the Constitution with the Manusmrithi. He recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed he is the pradhan sevak and not pradhan mantri. “But to whom is he sevak?” he asked. “He is acting as the pradhan pracharak of the RSS and the Pradhan Sevak of the corporate houses,” he observed.

TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, J. Geetha Reddy, TD president L. Ramana, TJS founder M. Kodandaram, and leaders of various national parties and people’s organisations were present.
