1st government eye bank opens

Hyderabad: The first government eye bank will start at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital on Wednesday. The eye-bank will collect the cornea for transplant from the cadaver donors and is a step towards battling blindness. Dr Ravindra Goud, superintendent of SDEH explained, “Equipment worth `1 crore has been procured and facilities have been created to provide cornea to those who are suffering from blindness.” The health minister, Dr Laxma Reddy, will inaugurate the eye bank.
