S-I bribed to not harass accused

-

In less than a month, another sub-inspector of police was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau taking bribe.

Ch. Srikanth, a subinspector with the Humayunnagar police was arrested by the ACB for demanding a bribe of `50,000 in order to not harass an accused during his station custody.

In January this year, a case for attempt to murder (U/s 307 r/w 34 IPC) and Section 27 of the Indian Arms Act was registered against one Saud Amoodhi, at Humayunnagar police station.

Saud Amoodi was involved in a brutal attack on a retired exnavy officer, Ikram Ali Kaleem, 56, in the parking lot of his home, Elegance Apartments, on January 10.

Saud Amoodi, a resident of Banjara Hills, was arrested by sub-inspector Ch. Srikanth in May 2018 and remanded to judicial custody.

At the time of his arrest, Srikanth demanded and accepted a bribe of `50,000 from Ali Mahmood Al Amoodi, the brother-in-law of Saud Amoodhi, to refrain from harassing the accused.

In June, Saud Amoodi was taken into police custody for a period of seven days, and subinspector Srikanth demanded another `50,000 not to harass him and to facilitate the bail proceedings.

He was paid another `30,000 bringing the total bribe amount to `80,000, but the policeman continued to press for the remaining `20,000.

This time the family of the accused approached the ACB, who laid a trap on June 13 and caught the S-I at Masab Tank Flyover.

He and his partner Md. Raheem Pasha were arrested and produced before the Special Judge of the ACB.
