-

An online trader with over 3,000 followers on Twitter, cheated the public of `10 lakh by promising them a five per cent fixed income on the investments they made with him.

Cyber crime cell of Cyberabad arrested Bekkam Sunil Kumar Reddy, 33, for duping three victims after he suffered losses in the share market in December 2017.

“To raise `50 lakh, Sunil suggested his followers deposit money with him, for which he offered a fixed income of five per cent annually. He wanted to recover his losses by taking money from his followers and one such follower named Naresh Babu Nimmala, an IT professional, deposited `6 lakh with him in May,” S.V. Hari Krishna, inspector of police, Cyber Crime cell, Cyberabad.

The victim received a text message from one Bharath after depositing the money, which read ‘Sunil died following an accident and his wife was admitted in a private hospital’.

When the victim went to meet Sunil’s wife, he found out that he was cheated and she was not admitted anywhere.

The victim had earlier deposited `25,000 as a fee to avail services of online trading tips given by Sunil.

Happy with his tips and the result, the victim deposited money with him without any suspicion. The officials seized `4 lakh from the accused.

A case has been registered against him under different Sections of the IPC and IT Act.
