No moon yet, Id tomorrow

Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, as the crescent moon was not sighted on Thursday. The festival is celebrated on the first of the Islamic month of Shawwal.

The announceme­nt was made by prominent Islamic scholars under the aegis of the Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee of Hyderabad Deccan, which met at the Hussaini Building at Moazzam Jahi Market on Thursday evening.

The committee made the announceme­nt after getting confirmati­on that the moon was not sighted anywhere in the Telugu states and in the neighbouri­ng states as well.

Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, as the crescent moon was not sighted on Thursday.

The faithful will observe the 30th Roza on Friday, which will also be the Jumatul Vida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan.

The committee meeting was attended by Majlis-eUlema-e-Deccan secretary-general and Muslim Personal Law Board member Moulana Syed Qubul Pasha Shuttari, Jamia Nizamia Vice-Chancellor Mufti Khaleel Ahmed, Darul Iftar head Maulana Mufti Azeemuddin and Moulana Syed Kazim Pasha Quadri among others.

The people especially the business community were anxiously waiting for the announceme­nt of the sighting of the moon. Many felt excited after hearing that Id-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on Saturday. The markets are reported brisk business with business establishm­ents running round the clock for the last few days.
