Alternate day water for SCB

- RAJESWARI PARASA I DC

The SCB decided on Friday that it supply water on alternate days from August 1. A revised billing system will be introduced from July 10. Residents in all wards have to pay `315 every month.

This constitutes a massive hike for residents of nonRCC structures who were earlier paying `165. There is no change for residents in RCC (G+1) structures.

The meeting gave a proper definition for ‘basti’ for better billing; 54 per cent of the SCB comprises bastis.

SCB vice-president J. Rama Krishna said, “This is for the first time in seven or eight that we met only to discuss water problems.”

There were different opinons on the new rates of billing for water. Ward 3 member B. Anita Prabhakar said residents would pay the revised bills only after they actually receive water on alternate days.

The number of tankers will be increased and the charges will be on par with that of the Hyderabad Metro Water Board.

Speaking about the nearly 10,000 illegal connections, Mr Rama Krishna said, “They can be authorised if they pay the existing connection charges of `8,500, before July 10.”

All government schools and religious places will get water free. The SCB will form a committee to review the water situation every month.

The board decided to hike connection charges as follows: Non-RCC houses: `4,500 (old `3,000); RCC (G+1) structures `6,000 (`4,500) and additional floors `12,500 (`8,500).
