Asad to UN: Don’t involve in Kashmir

- DC CORRESPONDENT

MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi asked the United Nations not to interfere in the internal affairs of India, after it released a report on human rights violations in Kashmir.

“The United Nations does not have any right to interfere in the internal matters of India and it should not interfere. The report hurts the sovereignty of the country and we stand with the Indian government in condemning and denouncing it,” he said.

He said, “Our relations with the ruling party at the Centre might be not good. But when it comes to the nation, we stand unanimously with the government.”

The UN should first study and report the human rights violations in Palestine, he said.

Mr Owaisi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to work to improve the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. “For the last four years, the BJP and the PDP are ruling the state. Yet there is no improvement in the situation,” he said.

The MIM president condemned the killing of noted journalist Shujaat Bukhari, chief editor of Rising Kashmir, and a soldier, Aurangzeb, by gunmen in Kashmir on Thursday. “Who are these people who are killing innocents in the holy month of Ramzan. Are they humans,” he asked.

Taking a dig at the PM’s health challenge, he said that the people were more interested in employment, food and health. “The Prime Minister should be more worried about the Army personnel who are guarding the borders braving the enemy bullets and not about his health,” he said.

He said Mr Modi talks about “sab ka saath, sab ka vikas”,but fails to hold an iftar for Muslims. “Minister for minority affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi holds the iftar and invites women who were divorced by their husbands. Unfortunately, the same women told mediapersons at the venue that the government should not interfere with the ‘triple talaq’ issue. What more you want from the Muslim women on the issue,” he asked.
