Experts demand PUC reminders

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Majority of the people fail to renew their Pollution under Control certificates (PUC) because they don’t have any reminders by testing centres unlike reminders sent by insurance companies, say road safety experts. There is a need to upgrade the RTA’s m-WALLET in such a way that the app sends reminders to the users to renew the PUC certificates and also to include the certificates facility in the app.

Mr K. Vinod Kumar Kanumala, a road safety expert, said, “Earlier most of the people used to stick the PUC certificates on their vehicles which used to remind them of their renewal date but these days nobody does so. Majority of them fail to renew their certificates because of no reminders.”

He said, “People even forget to renew their insurance but insurance companies help them by sending them reminders on a regular basis before the deadline. Similary, PUC centres should send reminders to the people reminding to get renewal of their PuC certificates. The m-Wallet has about 1 crore users now and the app should be upgraded in such a way that it can send reminders about the renewal of insurance as well as PUCs.”

An official from the PCB said, “There are many private PUC vans across the city but nobody gets their certificate renewal but the reminders will encourage the people to get the pollution check done.”
