-

The B.R. Ambedkar community hall for which the foundation stone was laid on June 14, 2016, at Risala Bazaar under Ward 8, is lying unfinished and neglected for more than 10 months now.

The foundation stone was laid in the presence of former Cantonment Board president Brigadier Ajay Singh Negi, then CEO Sujatha Gupta, and all the Board members.

The hall, which was built for social gatherings and public meetings, is now home to street animals, defeating the public purpose of building it.

SCB, said that, “Due to the lack of funds and also as the cantonment service charges are going down, the construction work is being delayed. During the recent cantonment board meeting we discussed this and we are trying to pool in funds from various public representatives to get around `50 lakh.”

“We will resume the construction work by July 15 and complete it in less than nine months,” he added.

Manne Krishank, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson, said that, “Community halls significantly help people of all sections particularly the poor. Authorities halting construction works causing a delay of two years is indeed of grave concern. The place which could be of great use for local residents has become a shelter for pigs and stray dogs. Elected representatives and the Cantonment Board officials are accountable for this long delay and we demand they construct the hall immediately.”
