NURSES TOLD TO PROMOTE STATE DELIVERIES

A midwifery course is being introduced by the Telangana government to train nurses so that the rising number of institutional deliveries in government hospitals due to the KCR Kits scheme can be managed.

There are 6,84,880 women registered under the scheme and 2,48,221 Kits have been distributed.

Those registered opt for child birth in government hospitals and doctors there require trained staff to help them.

Dr Laxma Reddy, Health Minister explained, “Institutional deliveries in government hospitals were only 16 per cent but have now crossed 70 per cent. To deal with this load it is important to have trained nurses and technicians. The course is also aimed at reducing the maternal mortality rate in the state.”

The midwifery course is being initiated to reduce the risk of C-section surgeries and opt for normal deliveries. The course will help the nurses guide the mothers in the process of natural birthing and also ensure safe deliveries. They will also be trained to identify high risk pregnant women and guide them to critical care units for care.

Midwifery is a profession in the developed world and plays a major role in helping pregnant women from the first trimester till the birthing process.

THE MIDWIFERY course is being initiated to reduce the risk of Csection and opt for normal deliveries.
