MORE SECURITY CAMERAS BEING INSTALLED IN SCB

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Following a series of chain snatching incidents and thefts in colonies falling under the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, additional security cameras are being installed under the ‘Nenu Saitham’ project.

While citizens bare 25 per cent of the charges under this project, 75 per cent is borne by the government. If citizens can’t afford to bear the cost, then the entire budget would be borne by the government.

Residents were worried as their vehicle tyres were being punctured and unidentified people were seen roaming in the area at night. These incidents have forced the residents to demand the implementation of the project so that the area would be under 24-hour surveillance. However, some people had objected to the move citing security reasons and rejected the installation of cameras as their movement would be monitored.

Already, 78 cameras have been installed in the SCB jurisdiction in Bowenpally, Check post lane, Satyasai Enclave, Jaya Nagar, Soujanya colony, and Mona Vikas colony.

Mr B.T. Srinivas, a resident at SCB, said, “With these cameras, vehicular movements will be monitored on certain cantonment roads as people are driving without following rules and parking in ‘no parking zones’, creating trouble for others. I hope such things will be curbed once cameras are installed.”

Mr Vijay Kumar, inspector, Bowenpally, said, “There is an increasing need for CCTVs in the city now as crime rate is increasing. So, we are in the process of identifying the locations that are in need of CCTVs and installing them. There might be more than 50 cameras installed in the SCB.”
