Army restricts access at odd times

- RAJESWARI PARASA I DC HYDERABAD, JULY 5

Not just the closed roads in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board area, the woes of the residents extend to those roads that are open as well.

Soldiers deployed on the roads restrict access to residents at odd hours even though the Local Military Authority (LMA) has not officially declared any night-time restriction.

SCB resident Pranali Malwatkar complained that access was cut off on the Valerian Gate at 11.30 pm on July 3.

The jawan insisted that the keys were with Subedar saab and he could not open the gate, Ms Malwatkar said.

When she said she would take the video of the closed gate, the jawan took the keys from his pocket and opened the lock on the gate.

Residents took to Twitter once again and asked why they must face the continuing series of road closures.

SCB resident Anoop Kumar said on his twitter handle, “The mindset of Army officials is not understood. They are defying the orders of the ministry of defence by not reopening all the public roads closed illegally earlier,”

“They are resorting to harassing and frustrating the civilians even on roads opened, clearly indicating provocation and instigation,” he tweeted.
