INDIGO RETURNS BAGGAGE WITH 9 ITEMS MISSING

- INDULEKHA ARAKKAL | DC

Indigo Airlines has been ordered to compensate Hyderabad resident Birendra Baid for misplacing his baggage and then returning it with nine items missing, including a mobile phone and a Tommy Hilfiger watch.

Mr Baid stated that he and his wife had taken an Indigo flight from Hyderabad to Ahmedabad to attend a marriage on March 17, 2016. On reaching Ahmedabad, he found his bag missing and received it after making repeated calls to the airline.

Upon opening it, he found nine items, including two saris, a Tommy Hilfiger watch, a salwar suit, a shaving kit, a Samsung mobile charge, two food consumables and a baba suit, missing, and this was duly noted in the acknowledgement.

He stated that the value of lost articles was `65,000.

The airline contended that the missing baggage report only mentioned clothes, chocolates and jellies. It said the delay in the delivery of Mr Baid’s luggage was not attributable to any fault on their part as another passenger had mistakenly picked it up.

When the complaint was received, airline officials informed Mr Baid his bag was untraceable and offered `3,500 as his bag weighed 10 kg and travel vouchers worth `3,000.

Later, it was found another passenger had picked up the bag and it was collected immediately. The forum noted that Mr Baid had proved the value of the baggage that was misplaced. Indigo was asked to pay `30,000 for loss of baggage and `5,000 towards compensation for the mental agony and inconvenience suffered by the consumer.
