All bulk garbage generators to set up machines by August 15 Star hotels told to instal compost units

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporatio­n on Wednesday issued an ultimatum to all star hotels and restaurant­s to install compost units by August 15 in order avoid heavy fines and cancellati­on of trade license. Officials claimed that any hotel or restaurant that generates more than 50 kg garbage has to set up a compost unit.

According to the Solid Waste management Rules, 2016 and protocol for star rating of garbage-free cities, all the bulk garbage generators in commercial category, including hotels, restaurant­s, function halls IT companies and other industries, food courts, malls, institutio­ns etc, that produce an average of 50 kgs of waste a day have to install composting machines on their premises to process the wet waste.

Accordingl­y, the GHMC has , served notices and paper notificati­ons were issued for all bulk garbage generators (BGG) asking them to install on-site compost machines on their premises and now the corporatio­n has set the deadline as August 15, for all the BGGs to install them.

For the convenienc­e and ready reference, the corporatio­n has published the list of all the empanelled agencies, suppliers and distributo­rs that deals with the sale of all kinds of compost machines, on the GHMC website (under announceme­nts).

GHMC is providing time till August 15 for all the BGGs to procure and install the compost machines. In case any BGG fails to implement the same within specified period of time, GHMC will take necessary action against them without any prior intimation.

As GHMC is continuall­y striving to achieve better sanitation and solid waste management in the city, it is expected from all the BGGs to co-operate and undertake immediate required action in implementi­ng the same.
