Dargah land given to school converted into farmhouse

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD JULY 18

A land parcel measuring a few acres near the Pahadishareef dargah, ostensibly meant for setting up an educational institution was converted into a farmhouse.

The Wakf Board discovered this during an inspection of the dargah on Thursday. Wakf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem said the board had already cancelled the lease and would evict the occupants.

“The purpose of the inspection was to check for encroachers and those who took Wakf land on lease and were not paying rents. An action plan is being drawn up in coordination with the authorities to evict the encroachers,” he said.

Officials also found the some musclemen were selling land belonging to the dargah after converting it into plots of 100 and 150 square yards on the Mamidpally road.

“A few insiders are also instrumental in selling the land and we warn the public against purchasing the land. A Wakf land is always a Wakf land, so there is no use of investing money and buying it from unscrupulous elements,” he said.

This newspaper had on Wednesday reported about encroachments of the Pahadishareef dargah Wakf land. The report stated that large tracts of land were being given by the government to private companies for development.

“We have taken up the issue with the government; a few companies had obtained the land on lease from the government. Soon, we will hold discussions and secure the lease amount for the board,” Mr Saleem said.

A big ramp is also being constructed from the main road to the hilltop shrine for the convenience of visitors. The works will begin soon. The alignment had been done, Mr Saleem said.
