Galla to kick off debate in House

- PATRI VASUDEVAN | DC VIJAYAWADA, JULY 19

The Telugu Desam was busy on Thursday keeping an eye on developments taking place in New Delhi, where the no-confidence motion it has moved will be debated on Friday.

Chief Minister Mr Chandrababu Naidu has directed party leaders to be in touch with national parties for their support for the no-confidence motion. He could have done without the sudden threat from MP J.C. Diwakar Reddy to resign.

Mr Naidu has decided that Guntur MP Galla Jayadev will kick off the debate on the no-confidence motion instead of Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sreenivas. Kesineni Sreenivas and K Rammohan Naidu will participate later on in the discussion.

Mr Diwakar Reddy created a last minute headache for the party on Thursday by threatening to resign from after participating in the voting.

However, the party finally managed the to placate the sulking MP who has agreed to attend the proceedings.

The Diwakar Reddy episode has irked Chandrababu, according to sources.

The TD headquarters which has been in constant touch with the antiModi group in the BJP, was informed that the BJP is not against the no trust motion moved by the TD. Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and Prakash Javadekar, who are close to Mr Naidu, have indicated as much and accordingly TD has designed the strategies it will adopt during the discussion on the motion.

Mr Diwakar Reddy’s antics have thrown a spanner in the works. Finally, MLA Prabhakar Chowdary had to intervene and had a dialogue with party seniors on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, Mr Prabhakar Chowdary said that he didn’t have any differences with Mr Reddy. “I don’t know why JC has been differing with me,” he said and added that it is up to Diwakar Reddy to clarify whether he will participate in the voting or not.

Following pressure from Mr Diwakar Reddy, the state government issued a G.O. on Thursday for the widening of roads at a cost of `45.56 crore.
