Musi to be rid of encroachments

Minister K.T. Rama Rao ordered the GHMC and the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation to remove encroachments on the river.

The minister was briefed about the planning and work to beautify the river.

Officials told Mr Rama Rao during a review meeting that many international architects were designing the beautification project. Garbage will be removed from the river.

Orders were given to the GHMC to install CCTVs to protect vulnerable places along the river from encroachments and signboards should be kept to prevent people from using the land.

The Hyderabad collector will conduct a full-fledged enumeration of encroachments following which officials will rehabilitate those staying there. They will be temporarily accommodated at the Vambay Colony or JNNURM Colony.

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi directed officials to expedite works relating to the Musi riverfront development and construction of 2BHK houses in GHMC limits at a review meeting.

He said a special officer should be appointed to coordinate with district collectors and other line departments for the Musi riverfront. A temporary yard should be identified to dump the debris. Blue sheets should be placed at vulnerable points to avoid further dumping of debris, he said.
