A total of 136 vehicles were sold to scrap dealers and `28,18,300 was received during the auction,” said the additional DCP, adding that about `1 lakh more is yet to be realised as some amounts are due.

The additional DCP further said that the city police had given out the notification arouned six months ahead of the public auction so that if anyone with an objection or the owners may file an application to the commissioner of police to claim the vehicle within a period of six months from the date of notification, failing which the vehicles will be auctioned.

The condition of most of the unclaimed vehicles has deteriorated to such an extent that they can only be sold to scrap dealers. Around 10,480 abandoned and unclaimed vehicles were auctioned in the last three years, among which 9,473 were sold to scrap dealers, leaving 1,007 serviceable vehicles that were sold off in the auction.
