`10L damages to bungalow haunt Akhilesh

Apex court had asked six former UP chief ministers to vacate bungalows

The controvers­y over the official bungalow of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav that was vacated by him in June following Supreme Court orders, has now taken a new turn.

A report submitted by the PWD chief engineer A.K. Sharma to the estate officer states that the bungalow has suffered `10 lakh worth damages when it was vacated by Akhilesh Yadav. The 266-page report points out that the tiles, sanitary panel and electrical wiring of the bungalow

Mr Akhilesh Yadav may now have to pay `10 lakh to the government for damaging the official bungalow which he had vacated in June. The estate department has submitted a report to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office regarding the damage to the government bungalow.

According to the report, the first floor of the bungalow was constructe­d by Akhilesh Yadav himself and a lot of other work and renovation­s on the ground floor were also undertaken by the former chief minister. The damages done to the bungalow have also been videograph­ed during the probe.

The bungalow on 4, Vikramadit­ya Marg was allotted to Mr Akhilesh Yadav in the capacity of a former chief minister of the state. The bungalow had to be vacated after orders from the Supreme Court.

Five other former chief ministers including Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mr Rajnath Singh, Mr Kalyan Singh, Ms Mayawati and Mr N.D. Tiwari also vacated their official bungalows after the SC order.

Soon after he vacated the bungalow, visuals of alleged rampage inside the bungalow were shown on the television channels after which a high level inquiry was ordered into the incident.

The Samajwadi chief, however, had rejected the allegation­s and said that it was an attempt by the Yogi Adityanath government to mislead the people of the state and tarnish his image.
