Islamabad, Aug. 10: Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain will administer the oath to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan as the 21st elected prime minister of the country on August 18.
The President has postponed his plan to proceed to Ireland on a three-day official visit on Aug 16. The decision came during a meeting with caretaker information minister Ali Zafar, said official sources.
Zafar stressed that the presence of President Hussain was mandatory for government formation.
The President has directed the Punjab governor Rafique Rajwana and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra to perform their duties until the formation of new government.
President Hussain has also approved the summary moved by caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk to summon the session of the National Assembly on August 13. The caretaker Prime Minister had formally forwarded a summary to the President suggesting to summon the NA session on August 13.
Imran Khan is poised to become the prime minister as the PTI has claimed the support of at least 180 lawmakers in the house of 342, including 272 which went to the polls on July 25.
In addition to this, there are 60 seats reserved for women and 10 seats for religious minorities in the house.
