Autorickshaw driver held for molesting teacher

The teacher was en route to meet her relatives who reside in the same area of Borabanda when Sohail saw and approached her, according to police.

A 22-year-old private school teacher, who was walking on the road at SR Nagar was allegedly molested by an autorickshaw driver early Monday morning.

The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

According to the police, the man, identified as Mohd. Sohail, 26, was standing by his autorickshaw in Borabanda area of SR Nagar on Monday morning where the woman, a teacher at a private school, was heading to meet her relatives on foot.

“The road, which is otherwise hectic and busy, was empty in the morning as it was 6 am,” said the police inspector of SR Nagar, Y. Venkateshwar Rao.

“She was en route to meet her relatives who reside in the same area of Borabanda when Sohail saw and approached her from the front, taking advantage of the empty road,” the official told this newspaper.

The official noted that Sohail held her hand first and also touched her inappropriately. She fought him off and raised an alarm, when the commuters passing by stopped and thrashed him, he added.

“He was brought to the station by the local residents who caught him and a complaint was filed by the woman, following which a case was booked under section 354D of the IPC which says, Any man who follows a woman and contacts, or attempts to contact such woman to foster personal interaction repeatedly despite a clear indication of disinterest will be punished,” added the official.

Based on the complaint, he was sent for a 14 day judicial remand and will be produced before the court shortly.
