- KIRAN REDDY ALTHURU I DC TIRUPATI, AUG. 19

Only two cities from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have made it to the top ten rankings in safety and security. Tirupati is now the second safest city in the country followed by Karimnagar ranking fourth. The rankings were released by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry recently.

The survey on safety and security of the cities was conducted as a parameter for the competition of ‘Ease of Living Index’ by the Central government.

A team from the Centre verified the crime rate, crimes against women, road fatality and surveillance systems. Tirupati proved to be the best in the said categories followed by Karimnagar.

Seven cities from both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were listed in the top 100 of safety and security rankings by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. Apart from Tirupati and Karimnagar, Hyderabad ranked 21 followed by Visakhapatnam 31, Warangal 49, Kakinada 56 and Vijayawada on 100.

Tirupati is a sensitive place with huge pilgrim traffic and VIP movement. The safety and security systems adopted by the police made Tirupati the best city in both Telugu states. Focussing on the safety and security of Tirumala and Tirupati, the police have been concentrating on basic policing along with Responsive and Visible policing to create a safe environment for pilgrims and citizens.

Surveillance is the best part of Tirupati Police, with the implementation of Andhra Pradesh Public Safety Enforcement Act.

With the said act about 8,000 CCTV cameras were set up by various institutions in the city apart from 622 cameras installed by the police department.
