- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, AUG. 19

THE POLICE found that Kumar, who was suffering from partial paralysis, was hanged to the ceiling using a cloth, and his mouth was also gagged. His mother raised suspicion over death.

A 29-year-old chef, suffering from partial paralysis, was found dead in a suspicious manner at his house in Chandanagar on Sunday morning. The mother of the deceased raised suspicion over her son’s death as he was suffering from partial paralysis and also a cloth was put in his mouth, while the body was hanging.

Praveen Kumar, a chef living in Nehru Nagar in Chandanagar, was married to Tejaswini. After his father Sadanandam passed away last year, Kumar suffered unilateral paresis (paralysis to one entire side of the body). He had a six-month-old son by then.

After he suffered the ailment, his mother Balamani and wife Tejaswaini left him and were staying separately. Kumar had hired one Praveen, living in the neighbourhood to provide him with food every day, as he was not able to cook and was not working.

Chandanagar inspector N Tirupati Rao said “At around 7.30 pm, Praveen went inside the house to give food to Kumar but did not see the latter. Even after calling him repeatedly, Kumar did not respond, upon which Praveen left the house by latching it from outside thinking that Kumar might have gone out. On Sunday morning, Kumar’s neighbour grew suspicious when she saw the latched door and peeped through a window, only to see him hanging.”

The police team found that Kumar was hanged to the ceiling using a cloth, and his mouth was also gagged. His mother Balamani was immediately informed.

“Kumar was suffering from partial paralysis. We also suspect how he could have hanged himself with such a problem, and also a piece of cloth was present in his mouth. Based on his mother’s complaint, a case of suspicious death under section 174 CrPC, has been registered and handed over his body after autopsy at Osmania General Hospital,” said the inspector.
