Mob in Bihar attacks woman suspecting her involvement in murder case 2 SENTENCED TO DEATH IN MANDSAUR GANGRAPE CASE
The Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, facing flak over rising incidents of sexual abuse at its shelter homes, was in for a shock when a middle-aged woman was thrashed and paraded naked in Bhojpur district.
The incident occurred after local villagers recovered the dead body of a 19year-old youth Vimlesh Sah from the railway tracks at Bihiya town. Sources from Ara informed this newspaper that a woman was later thrashed and paraded naked on the suspicion of being involved in the murder of the youth.
The violent mob also vandalised the local market and blocked road as well as railway transport for several hours. Security was beefed up in and around Bihiya following violent clashes in which several people sustained injuries.
The protesters claimed that the boy was strangled to death by people who were living near a red light area close to the murder site. Sources said that the woman also used to live in the same area.
The woman after being rescued was sent to hospital for treatment under police protection.
Seven policemen, including the SHO of the Bihiya police station, were suspected for their failure in controlling the mob.
Officials said sixteen persons, including a local RJD activist, was also arrested in connection with the case.
The incident later snowballed into a political controversy with opposition parties blaming the state government for deteriorating law and order situation in the state. A fast-track court in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday, sentenced two youths to death for raping a minor girl a couple of months ago.
The fast track court judge pronounced death sentence for the accused — Irfan, 20, and Asif, 24, — after convicting them for the rape and attempt to murder of a sevenyear-old girl on June 26, local public prosecutor B.S. Thakur said.
The girl was abducted near her school in Mandsaur, taken to a secluded area and gangraped.
The duo then slit her throat and fled the spot thinking that she was dead. The girl who suffered injuries in her neck, face, head and private parts is undergoing treatment in a government hospital in Indore.
