In a major reshuffle, the State government has issued transfers orders to three IAS officers, who were heading three key departments. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation B Janardhan Reddy has been transferred to the post of HMDA commissioner.

HMDA chief T. Chiranjeevulu has been transferred and posted as commissioner and IG, Registration and Stamps, relieving Vakati Karuna from additional charge of Registrations and Stamps. Mr Dana Kishore will also be secretary to minorities welfare department.

Incidentally, Mr Janardhan Reddy has been the only commissioner who served as GHMC chief for more than 30 months. He took charge on October 20, 2013.

As per the MA&UD official, Mr Reddy, who has also been serving as Hydera-bad district election officer cannot continue as GHMC commissioner for more than three years as per the Election Commi-ssion rules. Mr Reddy also cannot hold election continuing in the same post. Citing early election, the state government has transferred him as HMDA chief to avoid legal complications. However, highly placed sources said that several TRS partymen in the city were not happy with his performance and asked the government to transfer him to expedite the ongoing developmental works.

Mr Reddy also headed both GHMC & HMWSSB until government appointed Dana Kishore as water board managing director.

Mr Chiranjeevulu, who served as HMDA commissioner for more than two years have recovered the department from financial crisis. He had enhanced the monthly revenue of Hyderabad urban body from `15 crore to `75 crore.

He introduced revolutionary Development Permission Management System (DPMS), which eradicated human interface from approval building and layout permissions. Long pending Kokapet case has been won under his tenure, where 715 acres of land worth `1,200 crore was added to HMDA's account.

Mr Chiranjeevulu enhanced monthly toll collection on ORR from `50 crore to `300 crore.

It would be herculean task for Dana Kishore as he would now deal with all flagship programmes like the government’s flagship Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), completion of one lakh double bedroom houses for urban poor, nala widening and other major poll promises made by the government besides completion of Urban Mission Bhagiratha, `1,900 crore Housing and Urban Dev-elopment Corporation Ltd and Urban Development Corporation Limited, Aided Water Supply Improvement and Distribution Project, which would solve drinking water needs for 10 peripheral municipal circles of GHMC and construction of twin reservoirs.
