Even I am not happy about state of roads, admits KTR

- DC CORRESPONDENT

IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday admitted that roads in the city are in bad shape but promised to improve them soon.

Inaugurating renovated Durgam Cheruvu on Tuesday, Mr Rao said, “I know you guys have complains on roads, I am aware of that and I will get it right. Even I am not happy with the state of roads (sic)”.

He attributed the bad state of roads to ongoing works related to Mission Bagiratha, restoration of roads and SRDP project.

The minister said the face of west zone will be changed after an underground tunnel and hanging bridge come up in the IT hub of Hyderabad.

“We were told that the real estate prices will fall if Telangana comes into being but the prices are soaring in Hyderabad. In next three years, `50,000 crore will be spent from the budget for underground sewerage system, roads and amenities to citizens. The face of West Zone will be changed with an underground Tunnel and Hanging Bridge coming up from ITC hotel to Khajaguda.”

New facilities at Durgam Cheruvu include jogging and cycling track, children’s play area, yoga corner, gym area, children’s multi-play stations, portable library, modular toilet facilities, stone sculptures, and artificial waterfalls.

“Beautification of the lake with cycling track and walking track alone is not enough, it needs to be maintained by curtailing growth of water hyacinth and treating the sewerage water before releasing it into lake,” Mr Rao said.

The Telangana IT minister said, “Durgam Cheruvu was called a secret lake at one point of time. But now it is an open secret. Hyderabad was called the city of lakes at one point. I am giving a commitment, Similar to Durgam Cheruvu, at cost `541 crore from GHMC and HMDA, we are working towards the restoration and beautification of 40 lakes as part of Urban Mission Kakatiya.”
