Parents say pvt universiti­es selling seats for exorbitant prices

Parents said medical seat aspirants who were eligible for admission under A or B category through counsellin­g were being thwarted by private colleges which were selling the seats for double the rate.

The parents alleged that colleges were demanding up to `25 lakh per annum, which would add up to `1 crore for the full course. Most families were unable to pay such high fee, parents said.

Counsellin­g for MBBS seats by the Medical Council of India and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Heath Sciences had been completed by then.

The parent said the leftover seats after counsellin­g were returned to the medical colleges to be filled up by them. The last date was August 31. “Had these two colleges been given recognitio­n before the last date, many deserving candidates would have been eligible for A or B seats through counsellin­g,” he said, adding this his daughter was among them.

“If they get permission we can do counsellin­g for convenor quota seats, which they cannot sell. We have not got any informatio­n about recognitio­n for Maheshwara Medical College but if the parents have any complaints they should give us a complaint,” Health university vicechance­llor Dr B. Karunakar Reddy said.

Maheshwara Medical College denied getting recognitio­n and officials from Malla Reddy Institute were not available for comment.
