Police seizes `66.5L at Nampally station

Cash was being sent to Mumbai as hawala transactio­n

The Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force seized `66.5 lakh unaccounte­d cash, which was being sent to Mumbai as a hawala transactio­n, during searches at the Nampally railway station. Police arrested four persons from Bihar, while a hunt was launched to nab the manager of a courier company at Osmangunj in Koti.

At 8.15 pm on Wednesday, the sleuths of GRP and RPF intercepte­d four people carrying two parcel boxes about to board train no 17032 from Hyderabad to Mumbai at platform number six.

On checking the boxes, the sleuths found several bundles of cash in `2,000, `500, `200 and `100 denominati­on. The boxes also contained footwear and LED lights, under which the cash was concealed. The suspects were immediatel­y taken into custody and the cash seized.

GRP superinten­dent of police G. Ashok Kumar said that the accused have been identified as Sathyendar Bhagat, 42, Dinesh Thakur, 38, Mukesh Kumar, 24, and Dinesh Thakur, 26, all natives of Bihar and employed at Andhra Express Service Pvt Ltd, a courier company at Osmangunj.

They were taking the parcel boxes to put in the seating-cum-luggage rack coach.

“The manager of the courier company, Lalji, is absconding. On questionin­g, the accused revealed that the consignmen­t was bound for Mumbai and one Raju was to collect them. The box with LED lights contained `32.5 lakh and the one with footwear had `34 lakh cash. The accused did not possess any documents regarding the cash, which will be handed over to the Income Tax department,” the official said.
