CARELESS BUILDERS FINED `50K

-

The GHMC has fined the builders of an under construction site who had left a landfill open leading to mosquitoes breeding and inconveniencing residents.

The civic body took action after this newspaper published an article about the stagnant water at Banjara Hills.

A GHMC team went to the construction site and imposed and collected a fine of `50,000 on the spot and ordered the construction site to drain the water off as soon as possible.

Mr V. Venkatesh, Chief Entomologist, GHMC, who was on a field visit, mentioned, “We visited the site and observed the situation. The water was stangated in nearly two-and-halfacres of land and had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. We sprayed anti-larval spray in the water to eradicate mosquito larvae and collected a `50,000 fine. We have also asked the construction company to drain off the water soon.” When contacted, Sree Srinivasa, the construction company management assured that they would release the water and take measures to not drain water on the streets and instead drain it using motors.

The representative mentioned that their engineers are going to plan the draining off, either by releasing it via manholes into storm water drains or through tankers under the guidance of GHMC.

The construction management was imposed with fine of `50,000 by the Entomology team.
