Civic agencies, cops put in commendable show Most roads to be opened today morning
For a second year running, the Ganesh immersion procession went off like clockwork, sticking to schedule and not unduly disrupting normal life in other parts of the city.
It is expected that most of the roads would be open for traffic when the city wakes up on Monday.
Head of departments thanked citizens for extending their support and concluding immersion on time as per the action plan.
Director General of Police M. Mahendar Reddy said, “We have been continuously monitoring the immersion from the command control at the police headquarters. Besides, the idols have been geotagged for accuracy and transparency.”
GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore said the immersion procession was going on peacefully and thanked devotees for sticking to plan. “Police, GHMC and other officials co-ordinated for the smooth conduct of the event,” Mr Kishore said.
He said the civic body had deployed 10,000 sanitation workers across the twin cities. One action team was deployed every 3 km. The total length of the all the processions put together was 370 km, he said.
Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said to ensure a peaceful procession, 17,000 police personnel had been deployed on Sunday and the procession was being monitored through 2.5 lakh surveillance cameras.
