5K 5-FOOT IDOLS IMMERSED AMID TIGHT SECURITY

About 5,000 Ganesh idols that were taller than five feet were immersed in the limits of Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commission­erates on the final day of 11-day festivitie­s on Sunday.

The police is anticipati­ng that over 700 idols in Cyberabad and another 100 in Rachakonda may be immersed on Monday.

After inspecting the process at the IDL Lake in Kukatpally, Cyberabad police commission­er V.C. Sajjanar said that about 4,000 police personnel had been deployed in the commission­erate limits to supervise the ongoing holy procession.

The commission­er asked his officers to take strict measures to prevent untoward incidents. The immersion procession went off flawlessly. The procession was monitored on around 8,000 CCTV cameras at both the commission­erate headquarte­rs.

A total of 10,497 Ganesh idols of above five-feet were installed in Cyberabad and another 8,000 idols in Rachakonda.

On Sunday, 3,690 idols in Cyberabad and 3,967 in Rachakonda were immersed in 31 lakes.

Planning and collaborat­ion have helped in conducting peaceful Ganesh idols immersion programme in Hyderabad, said home minister N. Narsimha Reddy.

“Ensuring better coordinati­on with other department­s, the state police oversaw a peaceful and incident-free idol immersion process,” he said.
