The police believes that Monday’s Maoist attack in the Vizag Agency was planned by the extremists’ top gun Venkataravi Chaitanya alias Aruna, wife of Andhra Odisha Border special zonal committee military commission chief Pratap Reddy Ramachandra Reddy alias Chalapathi. Aruna heads the Nandapur dalam.

Stating this, Visakha Rural SP Rahul Dev Sharma said the police also suspected the involvement of other Maoists identified as Jalumuri Srinubabu alias Sunil alias Rhino and Kameswari alias Sindri Chandri.

“We have deployed forces at all strategic places to flush out the ultras and to provide protection to police stations and government establishments located there. We are also investigating the case from various aspects to ascertain the involvement of few others,” he said.

High alert has been sounded in Vizag Agency and along the AOB following the killing of Araku Valley MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former legislator Siveri Soma. AP security forces with the support of Odisha police, CRPF and BSF personnel have launched a massive combing operation in the region.

Security forces combed the tribal belt along the border with Odisha to flush out the insurgents. Over 50 Maoists, including women, had participated in Sunday’s attack near Liviriputtu in Dumbriguda mandal in Vizag Agency. Sources said that the atmosphere was tense in the area. The Maoist cadres apparently moved from the Odisha side hence more forces were deployed along AOB.
