GHMC COLLECTS 7,300 TONNES OF ADDITIONAL GARBAGE IN FOUR DAYS

The days of Ganesh immersion come at a heavy price in terms of pollution in the city. There was an alarming increase in the amount of garbage collected in the last of couple of days of the visarjan.

According to official reports, additional garbage of 7,300 metric tonnes has been collected by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) during the last four days of Ganesh immersion, out of which more than 2,000 metric tonnes was collected on Sunday alone in the Greater Hyderabad limits. All this has been collected since the day of Muharram, from September 21 to September 24. All the collected garbage has been sent to seventeen transfer stations.

A total of 8,600 sanitation workers were appointed by the GHMC in the 370 km procession route for maintaining cleanliness. There was a lot of garbage collected in the areas of Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg and Basheerbagh, as these were the main routes for the Ganesh immersion.

Most of the garbage was of pooja material such as flowers and agarbattis.

GHMC Commissioner, Mr. Dhana Kishore, stated that Ganesh Action teams had worked day and night and were settling things as soon as they could and appreciated their efforts. He added that there were also only a few complaints received this time regarding the immersion through the GHMC app and dial 100.
