- DC CORRESPONDENT

Mr Shabbir Ali warned the police and the government that the Congress would look into all such cases after the formation of its government and take action against those responsible as per law.

Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council, Mr Md. Shabbir Ali, has alleged that the caretaker government of Telangana was tapping the phone calls of Congress leaders. Mr Shabbir has said that he has written to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, about the issue.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, Mr Shabbir Ali said, “I was shocked and surprised to see that the intelligence wing of the state police are tapping my cell phone No 9948711111 for past two to three days and illegally monitoring and recording the conversations. Similar illegal and felonious acts are under way on the telephones and mobile phones of other Congress leaders as well. As per Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, no person shall be deprived of his privacy except according to procedure established by law and if done in an unauthorised manner, it would attract prosecution.”

He warned the police department and the government that the Congress party would look into all such cases after the formation of its government and take action against those responsible as per law.

He has urged the Governor to advise the care-taker government and the Intelligence Wing of the Telangana police department to stop such illegal phone tapping of opposition leaders and to protect democracy. “If he doesn’t take any action, we will follow it up after the Congress government is formed,” he said.

He also said, “The caretaker government is terrorising and victimising Congress leaders and workers with false police cases and pressurising them to join the TRS.”
