PIL seeks action against state over bus accidents

- S.A. ISHAQUI | DC

Former BJP MLA N. Indrasena Reddy on Tuesday moved a PIL before the Hyderabad High Court challenging the inaction of the state government in taking preventive measures to stop bus accidents in the state and also for not initiating action against TSRTC officials responsible for the recent major bus accident at Kondagattu in Jagitial district in which 62 passengers, including 37 women and 5 children, died due to overcrowding.

The BJP leader also highlighted the apathy of the authorities, who he alleged, did not take up relief measures to assist the families of the accident victims.

Mr Indrasena Reddy also submitted to the court that five victims in the accidents were still in the hospital as the authorities failed to provide proper treatment.

He said that after the accident, all the bodies were shifted to the government hospital at Jagitial but due to the non-availability of space in the mortuary, they were dumped in the verandah. The authorities concerned also did not provide adequate body freezers, he told the court.

He urged the court to direct the authorities to not permit more passengers than permitted in public transport vehicles particularly buses, cars, autos and so on.

He urged to the court to direct authorities concerned to provide proper medical treatment to the injured whenever accidents take place.

While requesting the court to direct the TSRTC to replace outdated vehicles with new vehicles , he urged the court to direct the station house officer, Mallial Police Station, to include the regional manager, the depot manager, Jagtial and others among the persons responsible for the bus accident at Kondagattu.
