Village sets multiple sports camps at City Riding Club

-

With a view to intensifying multi-discipline training camps in Hyderabad, the city-based Sports Village has tied up with Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club. A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed on Tuesday in the presence of Mr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Sports Village will rope in international experts to conduct clinics in tennis, football and basketball at the HPRC as part of “spreading our wings and widen our reach to help sportspersons get closer to realising their professional dreams,” according to CEO Mohammed Shamsuddin.

For now, “tennis camps run by international as well as local coaches have been marked during Dasara and Christmas holidays, followed by summer camps in April-May,” Sports Village CFO Durdana Arshi said.

Sports Village has been facilitating coaching stints for promising footballers for at the famed Tecnifutbol International Academy (Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou) in Barcelona, Spain.

More camps are on the anvil once the badminton courts and a swimming pool fit to host international events comes up at the HPRC six months from now, as promised by HPRC president Chaitania R. Kumar.

Currently, the sprawling 12 acre HPRC campus has elaborate facilities for polo, dressage and showjumping which are being made use of by about 30 beginners.

“It was our dream to provide an avenue for the kids to play whichever sport they like. The synthetic tennis and basketball courts and a fully-equipped gym provide them a good platform,” Mr Chaitania said.

“It’s nice to see parents encouraging kids to play. In the past, Hyderabad was the city of sports with many making it big in football and polo; now, it’s badminton, tennis and karate. I hope they will bring more medals from the Olympics and international events in future,” Mr Fleming said.
