OVER 5K STUDENTS TO REGISTER VOTES IN UoH ELECTIONS

Twenty candidates are left in the fray for the University of Hyderabad student union elections. They will be contesting for the posts of president, vice-president, general secretary, joint secretary, cultural secretary and sports secretary.

Thirty nine candidates are contesting for the posts of school board members (PG & Research) and 55 for the posts of councillor­s in their respective schools.

Over 5,000 students with valid semester registrati­ons are expected to vote in the elections on Friday. This includes around 70 visually-challenged students who will vote using Braille ballot papers. Voters are required to have valid semester registrati­on cards (valid up to December 2018) to be allowed to vote. No canvassing activity will be allowed anywhere within 100 metres of the polling station/booth.

All candidates shall be prohibited from indulging or abetting, all activities which are considered to be ‘corrupt practices’ and offences, such as bribing of voters, intimidati­on of voters, impersonat­ion of voters, canvassing or the use of propaganda within 100 metres of polling stations, holding public meetings during the period of 24 hours ending with the hour fixed for the close of the poll, and the transport and conveyance of voters to and from polling station.

Polling will be held from 9 am to 5.30 pm.

VOTERS ARE required to have valid semester registrati­on cards (valid up to December 2018) to be allowed to vote.
