GHMC removes posters, banners
The GHMC removed more than 1,000 banners, flexes and hoardings on Sunday, following the announcement of the Assembly elections on Saturday.
GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore, the district election officer, instructed the corporation staff to remove hoardings from all government buildings, state and highways within 24 hours.
Mr Vishwajit Kampati, director of GHMC’s enforcement, vigilance and disaster management, said the corporation had removed 500 huge hoardings and about 500 flexes and banners belonging to all political parties.
He said that 80 per cent of hoardings had been removed and the rest would be pulled down on Monday.
He said that it would be a continuous process and corporation will ensure that the model code of conduct is put into action.
As per Election Commission instructions, political posters, banners, and advertisements on all government properties have to be removed in 24 hours after the elections are announced.
Similar material from public places also has to be cleared within 48 hours.
Even private properties, which lack official permission or have objections from people, have to be cleared of political posters and banners within the next three days.
“Within 72 hours, all the district election officers will give me a list of work which has been grounded so that in future if there is a complaint that new works have been taken up we will use this list as the basis,” Mr. Kampati said.
