1st ever pet park opens for public

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi along with municipal administration and urban development principal secretary Arvind Kumar and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation commissioner M. Dana Kishore inaugurated the country’s first-ever pet park in Kondapur.

The park, spread over 1.3 acres, has been constructed with an estimated cost of `1.1 crore.

The ticket is priced at `10 to enter the park, which authorities say has been built to international standards.

Mr Joshi said that India’s first exclusive pet park was just perfect for every dog’s day out. Dogs finally had a space outside home where they could relax and rejuvenate.

He said that the park was equipped with dog training equipment, play equipment, areas of exercise, splash pool, fountain, amphitheatre, lawns, separate kennels for big and small dogs and a clinic.

“This park is developed as per international standards for dogs and dog parents and also certified by the Kennel Club of India and it is one of its kind in the country and other cities should also take a cue from this and give dogs their much needed recreational space,” Mr Joshi said.

He said depending on the success of this park, the GHMC had plans to set up one more park in the eastern part of the city.

D. Hari Chandana, zonal commissioner, said she herself was a dog lover and had seen similar dog parks abroad and had thought of providing such parks of international standards in the GHMC.
