POLICE MARTYRS TO BE HONOURED AT CEREMONY

Police commemorat­ion day will be observed on October 21. As many as 17 police personnel who sacrificed their lives will be honoured. A blood donation camp will also be organised by the Red Cross and 500 officers are expected to donate.

The families of martyrs will be honoured with financial assistance. Commission­er of Police, Rachakonda Mahesh Bhagwat IPS said, “They have sacrificed their lives for our tomorrow. So we should honour them.” The officials from Directorat­e of Revenue Intelligen­ce (DRI) arrested one person and seized 720 kg of ganja worth over `1.08 crore. from his possession on Saturday.

The ganja was hidden under a false floor in the cargo container. The officials intercepte­d a lorry near Ramoji Film City on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway. The man has been arrested.

The lorry, bearing the number AP 05 Y 8159, was heading to Hyderabad city with the contraband, which was uploaded in the agency areas, police said.

“The stash was cleverly placed under stacks of nuts and under metal sheets, which acted as a false floor. The cargo area initially looked empty but it was only after detailed examinatio­n, it was observed that the nuts fastened to the floor of the cargo area appeared fresh, leading to the hidden 180 packets, each weighing about 4 kg.”, officials said adding that the total weight was 720 kg.
