BALLADS STEAL SHOW AT RAHUL MEET
TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao may need to appoint some balladeers to counter the Opposition, as they are targeting him with ballads at public meetings.
The crowd at Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s public meeting at Kamareddy loved the ballads rendered by Apuri Somanna. The programme which was organised by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Samskruthika Sena had many songs containing allegations against Mr Chandrasekhar Rao.
One of the ballads went, Amma Telanganama, akali kekala ganama (Telangana is still fighting with hunger), Podavara potu, Car tyre ku potu (Puncture the car’s tyres, a reference to the TRS symbol), Manaku emi migulayi kashtaalu kanneellu thappa (People of Telangana are still in tears) and Jillaalu maaraayi, Jeevithaalu maaraledu (districts were changed but not the lives of people).
These songs enthused the Congress women workers to start impromptu dances. The ballads accused Mr Rao of corruption and betrayal of students’ families.
The TPCC Samskrutika Sena did not stop the show even when the stage was about to collapse, it continued even as workers carried out repairs under the stage.
Mr Somanna said, “The songs were sung from the bottom of our heart. We couldn’t stop as we received a huge response. I have been singing these songs for last 20 years for the betterment of Telangana.”
