Almanac writers want unified calender

The almanac writers have resolved to sink their doctrinal differences and face the criticism of rationalists and atheists. They stressed the need for a uniform Almanac calendar so that people would not be confused about festivals and other muhurthas.
The writers will give their support to the proposed 11-day astrological conference in January 2019 organised by the respected Almanac writer Ponnaluri Srinivasa Gargeya.
The almanac writers convened a meeting here on Sunday in Challa Jagannadha Sastry Kalyana Mandapam, presided over by eminent Almanac writer and Pranthi Television managing director Ponnaluri Srinivasa Gargeya. The Brahmin Corporation chairman, Vemuri Ananda Suri, who was chief guest, unveiled the book Suvarchala Anjaneya Jyothisha Ratnakaram written by president of the Drikh Siddantha Almanac Writers’ Association, H.V.V. Subrahmanya Sarma.
At the meeting, the almanac writers condemned what they called the malicious propaganda of certain TV channels and atheists to discredit their profession. They came to the conclusion that they must be united first and then attack the atheists with proper astrological principles and uphold the basic principles of astrology and almanac writing, which they said was an ancient Vedic science.
They also stressed the need for bringing uniformity to the almanac or calendar so as not to create confusion about festivals and different muhurthas among the people.
Mr Suri, president of the Brahmin Corporation, said that the astrological sciences are very old and the Sanathana Dharma acharyas have been following it and have given it to the people. However, he said that some people who claim to be secularists or self-made scientists are critical of the astrological sciences. He said that the almanac writers should give a fitting lesson to them and also protect these sciences.
The Poorva Siddantha almanac writer Butte Veerabhadra Daivazna said that the 11-day conference should not stress on different doctrinal principles, but it should accept only calculations to prove their methods.
The Madhira Siddantha almanac writer Madhira Pala Sankara Sarma said that he was getting ready to face the atheists and anti-astrological channels to give a fitting lesson to them.
