HC NOTICE TO GOVT OVER TRAFFIC RULE VIOLATIONS

Making it clear that traffic rules have to be strictly implemented in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana government to file a report before it explaining the existing traffic rules and steps being taken to implement them.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice SV Bhatt was dealing with a PIL based on the letter by Dr. Vipin Srivastava, Professor of University of Hyderabad. He had written to the Chief Justice on the bad traffic conditions in the twin cities.

The bench directed the authorities to explain the steps taken to reduce noise pollution and also to stop unnecessary honking of horns. They also directed authorities about the steps to be taken to control minors from driving vehicles. In this context, they asked whether there was any law in the state to punish parents when minors were caught driving a vehicle. The bench also asked what action was taken against violators in one way routes in their report.

The bench noted that in Chhattisgarh, bike riders did not wear helmets and this was the situation here too and it had to be changed.

While tagging another PIL taken up based on the letter of Mr. Rapolu Bhaskar ,an advocate, with the present PIL, the bench directed the authorities to submit the report within a week.
