3 from WB held for cyber fraud

Three persons from West Bengal, who were helping cyber fraudsters involved in syphoning off money from the bank accounts of the public, were arrested by the Hyderabad cyber crime police on Monday.

The police recovered debit cards, bank passbooks from the accused and produced in a court.

Detective department DCP Avinash Mohanty said two complaints were received regarding OTP fraud, where cyber crooks called the customers of a bank posing as bank officials asking them to share the details of their debit cards to update the cards.

Two victims from the city have lost `1 lakh and `75,000.

Separate cases were registered in this regard for the probe by crime wing.

During the investigat­ion, the details were collected from their banks and ecommerce wallets, into which the syphoned money was diverted and identified three persons Md Salamat Islam Sardar, Samir Hazra and Shankar Haldar, all residents of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, who were assisting the crooks.

“The accused persons were assisting the fraudsters by obtaining what they sought for a commission,” the DCP said.

“The crooks have been using the bank accounts of the apprehende­d persons. They have been arrested and brought to the city on a transit warrant and produced in a court here on Monday to be sent to judicial custody,” the DCP added. the cyber
